How the Acai Berry Can Help Diabetes
The issue of obesity is steadily moving to the forefront as more and more individuals are overweight. As a result there has also been an increase in the incidents of other diseases such as diabetes. The Acai berry has been used for a long time by Brazilians for its health effects but only in recent times has it been introduced to the world at large. Since its introduction as a health supplement this fruit has gained popularity due to its health benefits as well as its ability to aid in weight loss. This article focuses on the relationship between diabetes and the Acai berry.
Diabetes is often overlooked in comparison to other diseases such as Heart Attack and Cancer but the fact remains that this is indeed a very dangerous disease and a silent killer. This disease first manifest due to a drop in the levels of a hormone called insulin. Insulin is responsible for the control of the glucose in the blood. When food is consumed, glucose enters the blood and insulin aids in its removal from the blood. When there is a malfunction in this system the onset of diabetes follows.
There are two main types of diabetes. Both are related to an elevate level of sugar in the blood. Type 1 is due to insufficient levels of insulin in the blood stream due to a malfunction of the pancreas. The Type 2 is when glucose cannot be processed by the body.
The Acai berry can assist in two major ways. First, it can aid in the cutting of appetite, Diabetics must maintain a strict diet composed of all the necessary nutrients required by the body. Diet management is problematic when we are functioning on an empty stomach. The Acai can assist by providing a healthy option to sill the stomach as opposed to the snacks we tend to nibble on when hungry and which are not healthy. When we are not hungry we will stick to our diets and eventually achieve better health. The second reason and the factor making Acai alright for a diabetic diet is the fact that this fruit is a low glycemic index (GI) food. This means that the food is slow to digest and that the blood sugar levels and insulin levels raise slowly giving adequate time for digestion to occur.
The anti-oxidants and micronutrients which are found in the Acai berry aid in the development of our metabolism, cell communication and the action of insulin. The presence of fructose can be a problem but this is not the case for natural foods as these are filled with fiber and as such reduce the negative effect of fructose by controlling its absorption rate.
Acai can also benefit the body by increasing physical power. This berry is shown to increase the strength of the immune system and aid in the healing process from several diseases. This is good for all persons whether ill or not.
There are many forms of Acai on the market today. My preference is the capsule/solid forms rather than the liquid. This is due to the fact that the liquid juices are often filled with fillers which provide no benefit but raise the price of the product significantly. For the amount of Acai you get in the solid/capsule form you get better value for money by investing in this form.
